Stephen Center has served homeless and low-income individuals in Omaha since 1984 with the mission to partner with the community, families and individuals to overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty. The Pettigrew Emergency Shelter and Permanent Supportive Housing offerings provide safe and secure housing while individuals and families complete an assessment of permanent housing options. All Stephen Center residents have access to dual diagnosis support services via the HERO addiction/recovery program. 100% of Stephen Center shelter supportive housing participants are living in poverty. Housing transition support identifies poverty barriers that may impact one’s ability to achieve or maintain permanent housing through case management, life skills and behavioral health services. Stephen Center serves approximately 250 people daily in all programs.
Purpose: The Marketing & Communications Assistant supports the mission of Stephen Center by managing social media platforms, assisting with website updates, and contributing to external communication efforts. This position helps ensure that all digital and public-facing content reflects the voice, focus, and values of both the agency and the development department. The role requires a strong sense of professionalism, sensitivity to privacy and consent, and a collaborative spirit to gather, create, and share mission-aligned content. |
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
·Manage content creation including graphic design, photo and video. ·Schedule posting across social media platforms in alignment with agency priorities. ·Update and maintain website content to ensure consistency, clarity, and mission alignment. ·Ensure all public-facing content respects client confidentiality and follows appropriate photo/video consent protocols. ·Design digital assets for web, social media, and email campaigns using tools such as Canva or Adobe Express. ·Assist with layout and design of email campaigns, newsletters, and donor communications. ·Support the development team with campaign messaging, storytelling, and visual communications. ·Track digital engagement and make data-informed suggestions for improving communication effectiveness. ·Position reports to the Chief Development Officer to ensure content supports overall fundraising and communication goals. ·Collaborate with program staff to capture and communicate meaningful stories and impact updates. ·Perform other duties as assigned to support communication, marketing, or development operations. Position Qualifications Required Qualifications: ·Must conduct oneself with professionalism and in alignment with Stephen Center’s mission and values. ·Experience managing organizational social media and/or website content. ·Ability to use design platforms like Canva, Adobe Express, or similar. ·Strong sense of privacy and respect for client confidentiality and photo consent protocols. ·Strong writing, editing, and communication skills. ·Organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple digital projects simultaneously. ·Comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. ·Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends or holidays to capture content during events, or to meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: ·High school diploma or GED. ·Previous experience in nonprofit communications, social media or development. ·Demonstrated experience creating quality social media content. ·Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems. ·Bilingual abilities or experience working with diverse communities.
